Officer profile: Carol Cole-Frowe, Oklahoma SPJ Pro Chapter Secretary


Carol Cole-Frowe is secretary for Oklahoma SPJ and served two years as contest coordinator in 2004-2005. Cole-Frowe is the city/health reporter at The Norman Transcript, where she specializes in environmental reporting. She has written or edited at several daily Oklahoma newspapers, the Oklahoma Gazette and The Associated Press.

Cole-Frowe was the AP/ONE Carl Rogan Sweepstakes winner in 2005 for her coverage of the largest tax increment financing district approved in the state and was honored with the Ben Frizzell Media Award from the Oklahoma Floodplain Managers Association in 2006 for her coverage of Cleveland County flooding issues. The Altus Times won back-to-back Sequoyah Awards in Division 2 from the Oklahoma Press Association during her tenure as managing editor.

She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Central Oklahoma, where she was managing editor and a reporter for UCO's student newspaper The Vista. The Vista won the best non-daily student newspaper in SPJ's Region 8 (Okla., Texas) Mark of Excellence Awards during that time.

Cole-Frowe has also been features editor for the Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise, news editor for The Edmond Sun and city reporter at the Shawnee News-Star.
