What is OKSPJ.com?

•This is a domain name registered through the online company GoDaddy.com. Yes, this is the site with the banned Super Bowl ads. It was registered Jan. 8, 2008 by Althea Peterson, a reporter at Tulsa World.•

Update Effort

•Because this is largely text based site, it takes little or no effort to update and can be updated easily by anyone with the username and password. The initial effort of moving pages to the new site took about a few hours, including the startup time of domain registration.•

The server

•The server is also off of GoDaddy.com and to start, is on the "economy plan." This means that there is a limit of 5 GB storage space and 250 GB transfer limits. There are options to increase the limit to 100 or 200 GB space and 1,000 or 2,000 GB transfers. There are ways to limit how much storage space is necessary to cut costs.•

The available features

•The site is capable of doing anything you see on any other site on the Web. For example, there is a video displayed on the test page (see left side links). It can host pictures, have word or PDF files available for download, etc. It is just a matter of what is necessary and how much time can be spent updating the site.•

Necessary Costs

•To keep the domain name "okspj.com" through GoDaddy.com, the cost is $1.99 per year. To continue having the "economy plan" server with 5 HB space and 250 GB storage, the cost is $3.99 per month with decreased rates for longer periods of time. These are the only necessary costs of maintaining and updating the site, so to have okspj.com as it is now, it will cost about $6 for the first month, $4 for every month after during a 12-month period, or $50 per year.•

Optional Costs

•To update the site, a FTP program is necessary. The site was updated using WS_FTP on a free 30 day trial. When the trial runs out, you can either get another 30 day free trial of a similar program, or purchase the program for about $30. However, most other programs used for graphic design, like Photoshop, or word documents, like Microsoft Office, have comparable free versions online available for download.•

Working with other sites

•Pictures, audio and video files are often the culprits of taking up excessive Web server space. However, many sites now offer free hosting for these space eaters. imageshack.us is the most popular photo hosting page and it's free. YouTube and Google Video are popular video hosting sites, which again, are free. •
